This festival is celebrated by the people of Ejisu (the town where Yaa Asentewaa was a queen mother). It is celebrated with a durbar by the chiefs and people to honor and celebrate their ancestors and ask for their guidance in the coming seasons.

Volo Festival

This festival is celebrated by the people of Akuse. The ancestors of the people of Volo were once ruled by a very wicked ruler. They however managed to escape his tyranny. The Volo festival is therefore an occasion used to remember the escape.

This festival is celebrated annually by the people of Krobo in the Eastern region. It is celebrated either in late march or early April. During this occasion the people of Yilo Krobo and Manya in the towns of Krobo Odumase and Somanya give thanks to the gods for a good harvest.

Damba Festival

Just like the Bugum Festival, the Damba festival too is a religious festival celebrated to mark the birth and naming of the Prophet Mohammed. This festival is celebrated by the people of Mamprusi, Nanumba, Dagbon and Gonja. Recently this festival which hitherto was purely religious has taken a traditional twist and is also used to introduce the new yam crop.

Bugum Festival

Bugum festival is celebrated by the people of Dagon, Nanumba, Mamprusi and Gonja in the Northern part of Ghana. It holds a lot of religious significance although it is a traditional occasion. The festival is mainly celebrated in January to remember the flight of the Holy Prophet Mohammed from Mecca into Medina in exile. That is why it has some religious connotation. In this festival, to commemorate the Prophet’s escape, the people process from nearby villages. In the night, they hold torches and march together following the chief as he invokes certain spiritual words.
