Dzawuwu Festival

Dzawuwu Festival is celebrated in the Volta Region by the Ewes. In this festival there is Thanksgiving by the people of Agave traditional area. It is celebrated in February at their chief commercial center, Dabala. The festival is mainly celebrated to give thanks to the gods for the protection and goodwill showered on them. Special foods are sprinkled during this festival. The festival is also to celebrate the brave warriors of Agave who fought and were victorious in many battles. Families use this period to pay tribute to the departed members. The Dzawuwu festival is marked with lots of drumming and dancing amidst merry-making. To climax this event, the chiefs hold a grand durbar.
