Adaklu Mountain
Ho’s southern skyline is dominated by a memorable iselberg; this together with the assemblage of 40-odd villages located around the foot of the tall mountains is called the Adaklu. The area has been put into good shape for tourism purposes. A community eco-tourism project has been constructed at the Helekpe village under the NCRC and Peace Corps monitoring. Visitors can take hikes to the mountain summit with the direction of a guide. This adventurous exercise demands close to 2-4 hour round trip from Helekpe, along which you should be able to see some monkeys and a variety of butterflies and birds as well as giant snails, which are held sacred locally and may not be touched. Also, several cultural activities are available at the Helekpe villa, ranging from drumming and dancing performances to visits to the sacred bats of Avanyaviwofe, as well as to local kente weavers who weave very colorful kente you can buy for yourself and family. Costs range from GH¢ 0.50 per person for a village tour (plus a tip to the guide) to GH¢ 1.50 for a mountain hike or bike tour, or GH¢ 5 for a drumming and dancing performance.
